Unfolding Melody is a non-profit Klapollo zine featuring both artists and writers. This zine is SFW as no explicit content will be featured. Though some mature themes will be allowed, we will not be featuring content that goes beyond a PG-13 rating.Unfolding Melody focuses on Klapollo and the progression of their relationship. FAQ

QuestionAnswer
How will mods keep in contact with contributors?Mods will stay in contact through email and our Unfolding Melody Discord server.
How will themes be assigned?Contributors will be asked to provide their top three choices in the initial application and the mod team will do their best to assign everyone their top choices. Contributors will receive their assignments upon acceptance into the zine.
Will this be a physical zine? Will there be merch? This will be determined officially after our interest check, but we tentatively expect that we want to print physical zines with physical merch.
Can other ships/characters be included? Background ships will be allowed with approval from the mods as long as the focus of the piece is still Klapollo.
Is this zine SFW?The zine is SFW, yes, though we are fine with some mature elements (i.e. mentions of sex, light cursing).
Will there be guest contributors?Yes, we will be inviting a small amount of guest contributors to the zine.
Can I apply for multiple roles?Yes, but please be aware you will only be accepted for one role.
What is a pinch hitter?Pinch hitters are applicants that didn’t make the final line-up of zine contributors, but are on standby to create a piece in case a contributor has to drop out for any reason. Pinch hitters will be notified ASAP if their help is needed and given ample time to complete their piece. All applicants will be able to opt-in for pinch hitter consideration on the application. We’ll also be offering all pinch hitters the option to create pieces that will be featured as extras in the digital version of the zine if they’re not asked to fill an open spot.
Will contributors receive a zine?Assuming we meet production costs after pre-orders, all contributors will receive a free zine. Additional merch will be available at production cost.
Can minors apply?Yes, minors may apply to the zine. However, due to the PG-13 rating, as we are allowing the inclusion of some more mature themes, you must be at least 13 years old to apply.
Can my portfolio pieces contain spoilers for the unlocalized games (AAI2, DGS 1 + 2)Yes, you may. However, because all three mods haven't played AAI2 or DGS1 + 2, we ask that at the end of your application where the option for leaving additional comments will be, you make a note that your pieces may contain spoilers for those games.
I’m worried the mods will recognize my artwork/writing during the blind submission process. Can I submit pieces they might have already seen? It’s inevitable that we will recognize some artists and even writers’ samples when evaluating applications. However, we will continue to review applications objectively. We ask that you submit the strongest work you have, whether we may already be familiar with it or not.

Have a question not seen here? Feel free to send an ask to our Tumblr inbox or DMs and we’ll get back to you ASAP!

Application Guidelines*

We currently anticipate bringing on about 30 artists, 5 writers, and 5 merch artists depending on submissions. This is subject to change. We will also be bringing on a limited number of pinch hitters in case any contributors from our initial line up needs to drop out.
All applications will be considered through blind evaluation. Because of this, we ask that you please omit any identifying information on your portfolio submissions.
-----
*We do not condone anyone who creates or tolerates content that is racist, homophobic, transphobic, incestuous, pedophilic, etc. and if such information about an individual were to come to light, we have the right to remove them off the project.

ARTIST APPLICATIONS
Artists will be asked to create a portfolio with 3 to 10 of their best works. Artist applications will be evaluated on anatomy, color, and composition. If you’re interested in applying as a Merch Artist, please include 1 to 3 merch design samples in your portfolio.
• Please only submit finished pieces. Pieces in your portfolio should be fully rendered, not sketches, line art, or works in progress.
• Your samples should also showcase some background work. Please include several samples that have environments (interior room, outdoor setting, landscape, etc.,)
• Your submissions do not have to include Apollo, Klavier, and other Ace Attorney characters, but it is highly encouraged.
• Please make sure submitted pieces are high resolution. Pieces that are low quality and unclear will be judged accordingly.
• Viewable Google Drive or Dropbox folders are preferable for portfolio submissions. Portfolios we cannot access will be skipped.

WRITER APPLICATIONS
Writers will be asked to submit three polished pieces that are no longer than 3000 words in length each. Writer applications will be evaluated by technical skill, flow, voice, characterization, cohesiveness, and dialogue. When submitting your samples, please submit links to Google Docs.
• Please check for grammar and spelling before submitting.
• Please include one piece that shows your take on Apollo and Klavier’s dynamic.
• Excerpts are fine as long as you include one piece that is in its entirety and still under word count.
• Please put what you believe to be your strongest work first in the application.
• Please make sure your Google Doc links are viewable upon applying. If we cannot access your samples, we will skip over them.

Contributor Applications are scheduled to open July 14th.
